COMUNICACIÓN Y PRENSA
The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife has published the catalogue of the exhibition Washington Irving and the Alhambra: 150 anniversary. The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife is commemorating the figure of the North American writer Washington Irving with the organization of a broad activities program, which started in 2007, coinciding with the 175 anniversary of the first edition of Tales of the Alhambra, and which is ending in 2009, on the 150 anniversary of his death.
The exhibition “Washington Irving and the Alhambra: 150 anniversary” is a part of the commemorative program and recalls Irving´s journey through Europe and Spain, paying special attention to his tour through Andalusia, Granada city and his beloved Alhambra. This exhibition – with original manuscripts, first editions of his books, drawings, engravings and high quality paintings, historic photos and filmography, interactive material and scale models – is a Alhambra and also a contribution for the appreciation of the history of Andalusia, its sceneries and civilians, and a part of its history being told by other histories.
The exhibition, with 189 pieces on display, was possible due to the collaboration of 40 lenders apart from the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, as the New York Public Library, the Hispanic Society of America, Museo del Prado, Museo Romántico, the National Library, Patrimonio Nacional, as well as museums of Great Britain, France and Germany.
