The School of the Alhambra and the International University of Andalusia (UNIA) have organized a course entitled The Alhambra and music (1): Middle Ages and Renaissance, which will be held from the 4th-7th September in the Palace of Charles V.

Directed by University of Granada (UGR) professors Antonio Martín Moreno and Joaquín López González, the course is planned as the first of a set of four educational events, to be held in the Alhambra until the year 2020, in which we will be analysing the different facets and historical periods of the Alhambra in relation to music: Middle Ages and Renaissance; Baroque and Classicism; 19th century; and 20th and 21st centuries. The course will combine theory sessions with practical workshops.
This first edition of the course will be exploring the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, focusing particularly on the relation between music and the Alhambra and the city of Granada, during the period of Islamic domination and after the Christian conquest. The course will have a duration of 30 hours, spread over 25 classes and 5 complementary activities, and will bring ten experts in this field together at the Palace of Charles V.
