in the Alhambra

Poetry, music, dance and flamenco meet once again at the Alhambra this August with the Lorca and Granada programme in the Generalife Gardens, now in its 16th year.  Until 26th August, the show “Oh Cuba! Federico García Lorca. Son flamenco”, which was chosen by popular vote, will be retracing the idyll between the poet from Granada and the Caribbean island.
The show includes unpublished texts that García Lorca left behind in Cuba, poems by his friends Nicolás Guillén and Alejo Carpentier and unusual testimonies by other colleagues and acquaintances.
The show has a great team of 23 Spanish and Cuban artists headed by Loles León, in the acting department; Antonio Carmona, who composed the music and Adrián Galia in the choreography.  The flamenco pieces were composed by Diego Franco, while Francisco Ortuño Millán was responsible for writing the script and directing the show. 
The music is original and is played live in a head-to-head between flamenco and son cubano. We are also fortunate enough to enjoy the special collaboration of Alina Sánchez and the soloists from the Ballet Español de Cuba, with choreographies by its director Eduardo Veitía.
The music takes us on a tour of the most classical forms of flamenco, such as seguirilla, and other newer, more contemporary styles such as La Galiana (created by Adrián Galia). 
Since 2002, the Lorca and Granada programme in the Generalife Gardens has received the praise of both the specialised critics and the public with over 600,000 spectators. The programme has also won the Granada Tourism Prize awarded by the local tourism sector.
