The Alhambra joins in the 200th anniversary celebrations for the Teatro Real with a live broadcast of the Opera ‘I puritani’
The Alhambra will be taken part in the 200th anniversary of the Teatro Real with a live broadcast of the opera I Puritani by Vincenzo Bellini (Catania, 1801- Paris 1834). The performance will be screened next Thursday 14th July in the Courtyard and the Events Hall of the Palace of Charles V at 8 pm. Tickets will be free, although only a limited number of seats are available.
That night the Teatro Real will be performing I Puritani, which will also be broadcast live in some of the most important cultural spaces in Spain such as the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum, the Fine Arts Circle and the Giner de los Ríos Foundation in Madrid; the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao; the MARCO in Vigo, the Galicia Contemporary Arts Centre, the A Coruña Fine Arts Museum and the Niemeyer Centre in Avilés.
Other institutions in Andalusia have also agreed to take part such as the Town Councils of El Carpio and Puente Genil (Córdoba), Los Marines (Huelva) and Bormujos (Sevilla), while in Malaga the Birthplace of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, the Carmen Thyssen Museum and the Teatro Cervantes will also be screening the event. The opera will also be broadcast by institutions outside Spain in Vienna, Mexico DF and Bogotá. The Teatro Real will be installing a giant screen in the Plaza de Oriente in Madrid, on which members of the public can watch the show.

This is the last stage production by the Teatro Real this season, and it is being staged as part of Opera Week, a project through which the Teatro Real seeks to “bring opera to the widest possible audience in a participative way that is free of charge”.
I Puritani is one of the most important works by Vincenzo Bellini together with The Sleepwalker and Norma. The show has ben jointly produced by the Teatro Real and the Teatro Municipal of Santiago de Chile and it is directed by Emilio Sagi. The musical director is Evelino Pidò and the show stars the tenor Javier Camarena and the soprano Diana Damrau.
