The Alhambra holds meetings with institutions and citizens’ associations to find out their opinions about the atrium project

Opinions about the redesign of the entrance area to the monument, as set out in the project known as the Atrium of the Alhambra.

The Director of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, Reynaldo Fernández Manzano, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Culture of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Eduardo Tamarit, had a meeting today in the Palace of Charles V with representatives of different institutions and citizens’ groups to find out their opinions about the redesign of the entrance area to the monument, as set out in the project known as the Atrium of the Alhambra.

The meeting was attended among others by the Director of Unesco Andalucía, Ángel Bañuelos; the Dean of the College of Architects of Granada, Luis Alberto Martínez; the Director of the Granada School of Architecture, Emilio Herrera, and the researcher from the Spanish Senior Research Council, Antonio Almagro, representing the School of Arabic Studies. Members of the SOS Alhambra platform, Citizens for Granada, the Oppidum Eleberis Association, Ecologists in Action and Women for Granada also responded to the invitation.

In the work session which lasted for almost 2 hours the team of architects, Álvaro Siza -Juan Domingo Santos – who won the International Ideas Competition held publicly by the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife in 2012 to choose the Best Project for the new Entrance Pavilion and Visitor Reception Centre for the Alhambra and the architect conservator of the monument, Francisco Lamolda, informed those present about some of the issues surrounding the Atrium of the Alhambra project. Work meetings with other groups will continue in the coming weeks.
