“Filming in the Alhambra is a dream come true. It has been a unique experience which we will remember for the rest of our lives”. These were the first impressions of the actor Álvaro Cervantes when he appeared at a press conference to talk about the first few minutes of a day in which he donned the crown of the new King Emperor Charles V. “It was a very special, magic moment to walk into the Court of the Lions, savouring the silence, listening to the murmur of the water, getting inside the skin of my character, of such a powerful man, it will stay with me forever”.
The actresses Blanca Suárez, who plays Isabel of Portugal, and Marina Salas, as Leonor of Austria, were also thrilled by the experience. After a busy morning filming, instead of tiredness their expression was more one of “satisfaction. For an actor, being here is something huge. It has left a mark on us. Dressed in these wonderful costumes, in this place, travelling back in time, it seemed like we’d always been here. It will be difficult to repeat an experience like this one. Now I know that we can boast that we have filmed in the Alhambra and Ridley Scott hasn’t”.
For two days the team from Diagonal TV, the producers of the series, descended on the Alhambra and Granada to shoot three episodes of the series Charles V King Emperor: “The Alhambra was the setting for a love story, the most beautiful, most romantic part of Charles’s life”, said the director Oriol Ferrer, after finishing the shoot.
A hundred extras from Granada also took part in the filming. Apart from the Palace of the Lions, other scenes were shot in the Court of the Myrtles, the Lindaraja gardens and El Partal. Tomorrow Wednesday, Charles V and Isabel of Portugal will retire to other locations in the Generalife, the Gate of Justice and the Corral del Carbón to give full rein to their love story.
