The Alhambra is opening the Bañuelo Arabic bath to the public after its restoration

The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife is opening the Bañuelo, an Arabic bath built in the 11th Century, to the public after its recent restoration by the monument’s Conservation Department. This space, which is assigned to the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport through the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, is similar to the Roman Thermae and has been closed to the public for several months for restoration. The work has centred above all on repairing the tiled roofs, waterproofing the vaulted ceilings of the bath, replacing the cobbled paving in the courtyard and repairing the water-tank. The façade onto the Carrera del Darro, which was in bad condition due to damp, has also been restored.
The Bañuelo has three rooms with vaulted ceilings with octagonal and star-shaped skylights. The columns are adorned with capitals from the Roman, Visigoth and Caliphate eras. In the last room, visitors can see the ducts that carried the hot water under the floor to heat the rooms.
