Habemus Lesser Kestrel in the Alhambra! We would like to introduce you to 7NL, a female chick that we ringed yesterday for inclusion in our census of animal species. This year, the chicks hatched a little later than usual, as they normally arrive in mid May.
We discovered three mice and a small rat in the nest. Our biologists think that the rain has influenced the food that their parents, the adult kestrels, bring them. In the nest we also found a lizard, a beetle and various cicadas. They’re going to stuff themselves! The parents were not ringed and we think that these lesser kestrels are the first to nest in the Tower of the Heads in the Alhambra. We will keep you informed of any new births.
