This morning the Alhambra was visited by the Infanta Elena, the King of Spain’s eldest daughter. Just like any other tourist she walked around the Monument amongst the rest of the visitors entering some of the most emblematic spaces of the Nasrid Palaces and taking pictures with her own camera of the views of the Albaicín quarter from the Alhambra. During her visit she said that she intended to return to the Monument “very soon” with more time to admire every single corner of it.
The Head of the Central Control Service, Pedro Marín Torices, accompanied the Princess throughout her visit, which lasted just over an hour. The Princess said that she was most impressed by the state of conservation of the Monument and she showed particular interest in the changes that have taken place in the Mexuar and by the fact that two very different cultures had lived there together.
The Infanta Elena, who took an official guidebook and a catalogue for the exhibition “Art and Cultures of Al-Andalus. The Power of the Alhambra” away with her as souvenirs, said that she was very satisfied with the work that the Council of the Alhambra has been doing to make the monument more accessible. One example is the Touch Points located all along the itinerary of the public visit, so that people with visual disabilities can perceive the materials used to decorate the Alhambra by touching them with their own hands.
