The Alhambra presents its new titles at the Granada Book Fair
The Council of the Alhambra Press is a hundred years old this year
The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife will be taking part in the 23rd Granada Book Fair from 9th-18th May at the Alhambra stand in the Plaza de las Batallas, where its latest literary offerings will be presented and visitors can find out about all the Council’s publications over its long career as the body responsible for managing the Group of Monuments since 1914.
One of the highlights of this the latest edition of the Book Fair will be the presentation of the book La Casa del Chapiz (The House of Chapiz) by Camilo Álvarez de Morales and Antonio Orihuela Uzal, on Monday 12 May in the Casa del Chapiz itself. This book is published jointly by the University of Granada Press and the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife. According to its authors, the book traces the history of this house from its early years as a Nasrid farmhouse to its present day use as a research institute belonging to the Spanish National Research Council.
On Wednesday 14th of May at 19:00h at the Edificio Zaida of the Caja Rural Foundation we will be presenting Catálogo de Juan Cristóbal (1896-1961) (Catalogue of Juan Cristóbal) by Eduardo Quesada and published by the Council of the Alhambra.
On Thursday, 15 May at 19:30h we will be presenting a book entitled Prieto-Moreno. Arquitecto conservador de la Alhambra (1936-1978). Razón y Sentimiento (Prieto-Moreno: Architect-Conservator of the Alhambra (1936-1978). Reason and Feeling) by Aroa Romero Gallardo. This is also a joint publication by the University of Granada Press and the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, in which the author offers an exhaustive analysis of valuable documents, restoration projects and hitherto unpublished accounts of the history of restorations of the Monument.
As in previous editions, the catalogue of the Council’s 2014 publications will be available to all visitors to the Alhambra stand, alongside new works of scientific dissemination in fields such as restoration, heritage and history.
In collaboration with the Alhambra bookshop, we have also lined up free activities for children, such as Cuentacuentos (Storytelling) on Saturday 10th and 17th May.
