Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG) pays homage to Granadan poet Luis Rosales on the centenary of his birth, by issuing a DVD narrating his visit to the Alhambra in 1982. María del Mar Villafranca, general director of PAG presented the DVD this morning in the Palace of Carlos V along with Government of Andalusia general director for Books, Julio Neira; Government of Andalusia cultural delegate for Granada, Pedro Benzal, and Luis Rosales Fouz, son of the poet.
The act continued with a recital of some of Rosales’ poems, read by Daniel Rodríguez Moya, director of the International Poetry Festival, poet Javier Bozalongo, journalist Brígida Coín, José Miguel Castillo Higueras and Luis Rosales Fouz. Finally, a sequence form the DVD was screened.
La Alhambra was produced by Eduardo Noé with music by Ángel Arteaga. It recounts a visit paid by Rosales to the Alhambra in his old age, and is narrated by the poet in his own words. It was premiered in the Madrasa of Granada in 1982 in video format.
According to Villafranca, this work “immerses us in the most personal experiences of the poet. The Alhambra, inspiration for so many artists, musicians and writers, is also here in the work of Luis Rosales, who in the sights, sounds and subtleties of the Nasrid palace encountered the perfect state of mind for poetic contemplation”.
As it happens, Rosales was over 70 when he finally made his one last visit to the dream world of the Alhambra. As on many other occasions, the words of Rosales lead us through the “universe of the Alhambra”, a unique opportunity to be once more carried away by the calm of his voice, here the physical records of his words, to the Alhambra, always a key element in his concept of natural and artistic creation.
Luis Rosales Fouz, son of the poet, says that the recording “recovers the memory of my father – his reminiscences and his experience. For him, there was no monument more beautiful than the Alhambra; his poetry was always linked to this unique place”.
