Granada Provincial Council honours the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife with the Province Gold Medal
The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife (PAG) has won the Granada Province Gold Medal, awarded by the Granada Provincial Council. María del Mar Villafranca, Director-General of the Monumental Complex, was handed out the award by the Chairman of the Provincial Council, Antonio Martínez Caler. The fifth award giving gala, which is held each year by the provincial body, was celebrated on Friday 10 December 2010 at the Parque de las Ciencias (Science Park). Also Manuel Chaves, Third Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Territorial Policy, attended the event.
María del Mar Villafranca reminded that the award giving is coinciding with the 25 anniversary of the PAG being managed by the Regional Government of Andalusia. She also stated that the citizens can be proud of the Alhambra, which is a “cultural landscape”, considered as an “example of sustainability, balance, conservation” and reaches again the top record in visitor numbers.
The persons and institutions honoured this year by the Granada Provincial Council have expressed their “thanks” to the provincial administration and also their “excitement” for the awards. Apart from the Gold Medal which went to the PAG, this year, the artist Miguel Rodríguez Acosta was given the title of the Province’s favourite son, and the Chairwoman of the García Lorca Foundation, Laura García-Lorca de los Ríos, the one of honorary citizen of the province.
Also honoured: the thermal cities of the province, Curro Albaicín, Kandor Graphics, Hurtan, Destilerías Líber y el Granada Club de Fútbol.
