The season of ‘Lorca and Granada’ returns to the Generalife with the performance of Poema del cante jondo
The performance of Poema del Cante Jondo, en el Cafe de Chinitas is included within this year’s season of the program ‘Lorca and Granada’, performed already for eight years in the Gardens of the Generalife. The Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía returns to the stage of the Alhambra, following the overwhelming success of the 2009 season.
The performance is a co-production of the Instituto Andaluz de las Artes y las Letras and the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and José Carlos Plaza is in charge of the stage direction, whereas Peter Smith is in charge of the music direction and Cristina Hoyos of the choreography.
A large visible artistic cast consisting of more than 20 people, within a team made out of over 100 professionals, will offer once again the citizens of Granada and its visitors a unique cultural program. The performances will be carried out from July 27 until August 31, from Monday until Saturday, at 22:00. Important figures such as Antonio Gades, Mario Maya, Jose Antonio, Pepa Gamboa, Blanca Li, Cristina Hoyos and José Carlos Plaza, among others, have already been part of it.
During the summer of 2009, nearly 60,000 people enjoyed the superproduction Poema del Cante Jondo, en el Cafe de Chinitas by the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucia. This performance, showing the most ‘jondo’ or ‘flamenco’ aspect of Lorca’s work, was the show that attracted the highest audience in Andalusia, according to the data provided by the SGAE (General Society of Spanish Authors). This year, Cristina Hoyos and José Carlos Plaza are joining their efforts to surprise and move the audience to whom the summer performances at the Generalife Theatre are a must. In the past eight years, this event has been endorsed by more than 400,000 people, making it a classic within the cultural program in Andalusia.
