Daniel Barenboim participates in the 2010 Granada International Festival of Music and Dance

Maestro Daniel Barenboim has participated in the 59th Granada International Festival of Music and Dance. The Argentinian and Israeli conductor offered on Friday, July 9, a piano concert as a tribute to the centenary of birth of Fryderyk Chopin. On the following day, he conducted the concert performed by the Staatskapelle Berlin at the Palace of Charles V in the Alhambra. The concert was a dedicated to Anton Bruckner and his symphonic music, with the performance of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 6 in A major. Together with this composition, known as Bruckner’s “Pastoral”, the audience was delighted by Barenboim’s performance of Beethoven’s piano concert No. 4, which has been one of the most awaited moments of the evening.
The last performance of the Staatskapelle Berlin conducted by Barenboim was on Sunday, July 11, playing the Symphony No. 5 in B flat major. It was his third and last concert within the 2010 Granada International Festival of Music and dance.
During the presentation of his performances, at a display point in the Palace of Charles V, the Argentinian and Israeli conductor gave his support for the inscription proposal of flamenco in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Barenboim praised the flamenco style since he considers it “an expression of sorrow of a community”.
