The Alhambra receives the Excellence award of the journal Descubrir el Arte for exemplary care and preservation
María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, has been handed the Excellence award of the journal Descubrir el Arte (“Discovering Art”) for exemplary care and preservation of one of the most emblematic monuments of Spanish history, art and cultural heritage. The prize has been handed out by Miguel Zugaza, Director of the Museo del Prado, during the ceremony held this late afternoon in the Hotel Palace in Madrid. Many figures linked to the world of art and culture have attended the event.
After receiving the award, the manager of the Nasrid Monumental Complex confessed she felt “very grateful” for this reward, which without a doubt “is an incentive for going on working in favor of this special site”.
After the excellent reception of the first edition of Descubrir el Arte Awards, the journal has rewarded this year a wide range of categories, private and institutional initiatives, going from the preservation of the Alhambra in Granada to the innovation by La Casa Encendida in Madrid.
In this second edition, the Descubrir del Arte Award winners have been The Alhambra, the State Corporation for Spanish Cultural Action Abroad (SEACEX), La Casa Encendida, Miquel Navarro, the Gerardo Rueda Foundation, María de Corral López-Doriga, Gabriel Díaz, the Regional Ministry of Culture of Galicia, the Museum Foundation of the Spanish Contemporary Engraving and the Fine Arts Museum of Bilbao. The journal, which has edited more than 100 issues, has recently celebrated its ten year anniversary.
Most of the categories awarded in 2009 have been repeated in this edition so there have been given awards for Excellency, the best Promotion of Young Artist, Career, Influence of the Spanish Art Abroad, New Project, New Artist, Building Project, Heritage Protection and Artistic Planning. Two new categories have been launched this year: the award for Innovation gone to GTP Museum Solutions, and the award for Motor of the Artistic Creation gone to the International Contemporary Art Fair ARCO.
