The special edition of Tales of the Alhambra, by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and IDEAL beat record sales
The special edition of Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving, edited by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and the newspaper IDEAL, has beat record sales with more than 13,600 copies sold. From now on, when the promotion by the newspaper is finished, it is possible to buy the book in the bookstores of the Monumental Complex.
The edition of this book has also been possible thanks to the collaboration of the publishing house Miguel Sánchez Editores and it has been part of the activities organized by the Patronato de la Alhambra on occasion of the 150 anniversary of the writer’s death. It contains illustrations from the Archive and Library of the Autonomous Body as well as a gold foil thermo-engraved cover depicting an engraving by David Roberts.
María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, considers that Tales of the Alhambra “not only is a contribution to spread knowledge about the Monumental Complex, transformed by Irving into a marvelous scenario, but also represents a way of interpreting the values related to the cultural heritage of the Nasrid Palace Complex”. Furthermore, Eduardo Peralta de Ana, Manager of IDEAL, recognizes that the Alhambra that Irving had the opportunity to visit and even to live in, “is the Alhambra that everybody who approaches to this book can enjoy”.
This special edition contains an article by Antonio Gallego Morell, published in 1960 in the journal Revista Hispánica Moderna in New York and entitled ‘The Alhambra’, Washington Irving y sus traducciones españolas (“’The Alhambra’, Washington Irving and the Spanish translations”), as a tribute to the great intellectual and exemplary citizen in Granada, who was associated to the Patronato as well as to IDEAL. This article, together with a certain number of engravings, attaches a special value to this edition.
The special edition of the book Tales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving, published in collaboration with the newspaper IDEAL, is being distributed since January 2010 by the publishing house Ed. Miguel Sánchez to all book stores of Granada City and Province.
