The International University of Andalusia and the Patronato de la Alhambra commemorate the writer Washington Irving
The International University of Andalusia (UNIA) and the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife will commemorate the figure of the North American writer Washington Irving on the occasion of the 150 anniversary of his death, organizing a summer course in the head office Antonio Machado, in Baeza, from August 24 until August 28. Professors of the universities at Malaga, Seville, the Basque Country, Granada and Jaen, as well as architects and publishers will discuss in the course Washington Irving in the Alhambra the figure of the writer considering his artistic, personal and human aspects.
The course is directed by the Director of the www.unia.es, María del Mar Villafranca, and by Antonio Garnica, scholar of the North American writer. In the course will be analized diverse aspects of Tales of the Alhambra, the work that gave him international fame and that today, after 175 years, still is being published. Irving´s influence in the recovery of the buildings of the Alhambra and the publication of the appreciation of the Nasrid palaces will be some of the arguments to discuss in the talks.
This meeting is part of the summer courses program organized by the UNIA and part of the commemorative acts organized by the http://www.unia.es/index2.php?option=com_hotproperty&task=view&no_html=1&id=293&pop=1 for homage to Washington Irving at the 150 anniversary of his death. Talks followed by discussions on the Royal Alhambra and the Alhambra in Washington Irving will be offered; The Alhambra letters by Washington Irving or The man who wrote Tales of the Alhambra, between others.
