Daniel Barenboim brings to a close the 58th International Festival of Music and Dance at the Palace of Charles V
Conductor Daniel Barenboim will bring to a close the 58th International Festival of Music and Dance in Granada, which is held from June 25 to July 14. The Maestro will offer in the Palace of Charles V, together with the Staatskapelle (State Band of Berlin), three concerts, in which pieces by Beethoven, Wagner and Bruckner will be interpreted. The performances will take place on July 10, 11 and 12, in the Palace of Charles V, at 22:30.
The event will pay homage this year to the romantic writer Washington Irving, on the occasion of the 150 anniversary of his death, coming on stage the play El Castillo Rojo, by the company La Maquiné and coproduced by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and the International Festival of Music and Dance. It is a play for children and families, which seeks to encourage reading and to stimulate the imagination. In addition, in this 58th Festival, the Spanish composers Isaac Albéniz and Francisco Tárrega will also be protagonists along with six morning concerts in remembrance of the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609.
Some of the outstanding companies and artists taking part in this year´s Festival are the Symphonic Band of London, the Corella Ballet Castilla y León, The Royal Ballet with the performance of Marianela Núñez and Tamara Rojo, the Compañía Nacional de Danza directed by Nacho Duato, or the composer José Maria Sánchez-Verdú. On the other hand, homage will be paid to the deceased Bailaor (Flamenco dancer) Mario Maya, and the FEX will complete the Festival for the sixth consecutive year.
