Nasrid ceramic toys
Opening time: Saturdays from 12.00am during June
Place: Hall VII, Museum of the Alhambra, Palace of Charles V
The studies about the palatine society of the Alhambra have paid little attention to the domestic activity of the people: their games, which were very popular among the young people and improve our knowledge about the Nasrid culture.
Thanks to the many ceramic pieces found in the excavations of the palatine city, we can admire a great number of small objects of figurative shapes, water whistles and “gadgets” shaped as the objects used in the Nasrid domestic life.
These objects whose creation was based on specific celebrations of the Muslim calendar, undoubtedly were used by the children to play, but this fact did not demerit the quality and sophistication of these toys.
Among the many well-preserved pieces exhibited in the Museum of the Alhambra we can mention:
- – Anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures
- – Water whistles and whistles
- – Small objects
Additionally there are also some very peculiar pieces that we will show you during our talk.
No doubt that through these small works of art, children and adults can discover a new aspect of the creative beauty of the Nasrid period.
