COMUNICACIÓN Y PRENSA
For centuries, luxury textiles have been symbols of status, wealth and power at Islamic Imperial courts from the Atlantic to the Indian Oceans. They were also a means not only for setting standards regarding the attempt to capture “beauty” but also for the development of urban economies.
In this book, Louise Mackie, curator of the Textiles Department at the Cleveland Museum of Art, offers us the chance to find out more about the cultural significance of these textiles.
The book is divided into 11 abundantly illustrated chapters, which take us from the manufacture of these textiles, the workshops and materials to each of the periods and countries in which textiles appeared as symbols of power.
As one might expect, this magnificent work would not be complete without references to the textile industry in Al Andalus, which appear in Chapter 5 entitled Islamic Spain 940-1492.
