"Azahares de Granada" (Orange-blossom of Granada) is a historical novel set in the times of the Reconquest of Spain, to be precise in the last years of the Muslim presence in the Iberian Peninsula. The story begins with the birth of Boabdil and a mission entrusted to three young Mozarabs to recover some treasure that was hidden when the Muslims invaded Spain. One of the men hides the secret of his birth, another carries the weight of his nobility and the third has to overcome his fears and complexes. Countless characters cross their path heightening our curiosity about the intrigues in the novel, making it an attractive, entertaining and fast-flowing read.
The first few chapters tell a tale of knights and chivalry while narrating the historical facts of the taking of Granada. However about halfway through the book, the plot shifts towards that of an adventure novel. The end will undoubtedly surprise and please the reader, who will be left feeling somewhat nostalgic for those distant times long gone by, while enveloped in the perfume of the orange blossom of Granada.
