“A close reading of the written texts and drawings by Álvaro Siza, activities complementary to his architectural duties, reveals his constant desire to offer a poetic interpretation of reality. The word and the drawing are immediate aspects of his thought. His writings, his notes, his buildings too are developed through dialogues. This is why he needs characters, presences in his drawings. In this way he weaves plots, sets up meetings, joins lines, completes journeys, observes and is observed. In his work, drawings become a coda that makes space and time greater, that lights up the results at the same time as partially revealing or exposing the uncertainty of all creation.”
