The Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife has published the catalogue of the exhibition Soul garden, about the Korean artist Bae Bien-U. In this display, Bae confronts the pictures that he took at the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra and the Generalife with two of the Royal Gardens in Seoul. The sample reveals the connection between the Eastern and the Mediterranean soul. The presentation of these photographs of immense poetic density and clarity will increase the awareness for the inner beauty of the treasures of the Alhambra Complex.
The Secret Garden of the Changdok Palace, the Gardens of the Chongmyo Shrine and the Alhambra and the Generalife are all Generalife, a status that already implies their cross-cultural importance on national and global level. Furthermore, all of them are connected by the special interaction between nature and architecture, which is characteristic for gardens. Bae´s photographs reflect the sublime beauty of nature and architecture, as well as the solemn atmosphere of these places of soul.
Bae Bien U (Yosu, South Korea, 1950) is one of Korea´s most important photo artists today. He is known by for his highly meditative and spiritual landscape pictures. His large scale photographs in black and white, as well as in color, represent places of nature with a great symbolical value.
