A catalogue has been published for the itinerant exhibition Underwater World, organized by Lunwerg and Fundación AXA in collaboration with the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife. It was written by the curator of the display, the naturalist Joaquín Araújo, and approximately 70 photographs by national and international photographers show the best landscapes of the world’s oceans and the most remarkable living creatures.
In this book, Joaquín Araújo demonstrates the spectacular variety, biodiversity and representativeness of underwater terrain and animal life in the five continents. It enables us to become immersed in a world of magic, beauty and enchantment. The photographs of this book have been on show in the Retiro Park during the Madrid Book Fair in 2012, and in the Alhambra Woods in Granada from 9th October till 15th November 2012.
Joaquín Araújo is a writer, a farmer, a director of films – of leading articles, of radio programmes and magazines; he is also a naturalist, a silviculturist and a lecturer. He himself has planted 22,000 trees. He is the author of 85 books, co-author of 10 and has cooperated in 61 collective books. He is the director of and contributor to 8 encyclopedias and has written about 2,200 articles. He has given about 2,100 lectures in all types of centres and organizations, both nationally and internationally. He has been the script-writer and/or director/presenter of 340 documentaries and television programmes and has taken part in about 5,000 radio programmes.
He is the curator and author of 20 exhibitions, serves and collaborates with 34 NGOs and foundations. He was the founder and president of some of them. Among his awards he has the Global 500 Award of the UN, twice National Prize for Environment, BBVA Prize for the Best Popularization of Biodiversity and Gold Medal of Extremadura.
