This book contains two important manuscripts in the history of Granada. One of these is the will of Don Íñigo López de Mendóza, 5th Marquess of Mondéjar and 7th Count Tendilla, in which he sets out his last wishes in 1643 in the Alhambra. The second manuscript is an inventory of 1646 of all his estate, which lists all the furniture and fittings in the Marquess’ properties and offers a detailed description of the books in his personal library, amongst other contributions.
These documents offer the reader the chance to find out about the Governor of the palace city of the Alhambra in the mid 17th Century. They not only give us an insight into the noble house of the Mondéjars, but also help us gain a better understanding of their ways of life, their work as patrons of the arts and the humanist values that guided their family over the centuries.
