COMUNICACIÓN Y PRENSA
The doctor and architect, Julián Esteban Chapapría, has written a biography about the architect-conservator of the Alhambra, Leopoldo Torres Balbás (1888-1960). The book, published by Pentagraf in collaboration with the Board of the Alhambra and Generalife, is entitled “Leopoldo Torres Balbás: a long journey with the Alhambra in his heart” (Leopoldo Torres Balbás: un largo viaje con la Alhambra en el corazón), which delves deeper into the professional side of the architect’s life and which will also help us to get to know “the architect, the lecturer, the Islamic art scholar, the academic … A master and a man who, in short, was a survivor of his time. This book uncovers many key aspects of the life of Torres Balbás that had hitherto been shrouded in silence”, explains the Director of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca, in the prologue.
The book is illustrated with a large number of photographs loaned by the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, which acquired the archives and library of Leopoldo Torres Balbás in 2010, photographs which are now seeing the light for the first time after his records were made available to researchers.
