Le Maroc médiéval: un empire de l’Afrique à l’Espagne / ouvrage dirigé par Yannick Lintz, Claire Déléry et Bulle Tuil Leonetti. Paris: Hazan : Louvre éditions
The book we are recommending this month is being published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name organized by the Louvre Museum in Paris and the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco. The exhibition was on show at the Hall Napoléon in the Louvre from October 2014 to January 2015 and from March 2015 can also be visited at the Mohamed VI Museum in Rabat (Morocco).
The book is an invitation to travel through time from the 11th to the 15th century, when the Islamic west was at its peak in both historical and artistic terms. We revisit the different dynasties (Almoravids, Almohads and Merinids) which extended from the south of the Sahara Desert to the north of Algeria and Tunisia.
We journey through 336 works of art which range from fabrics to photographs, from bronzes or coins to documents on paper or in stone, some of which are from the Museum of the Alhambra in Granada.
