Baroque painting, one of the most representative manifestations of Andalusian art, has contributed a series of great names to the history of art – Zurbarán, Murillo, Alonso Cano and Palomino, to name just a few. Nowadays, many masterpieces from churches and convents disentailed in the 19th century are preserved and displayed in museums throughout Andalusia. Dialogues: Baroque paintings from Andalusian Museums exhibits 24 canvases from the collections of the Museums of Fine Art of Cordoba, Granada and Seville and from the Museum of Cadiz and the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife has published the catalogue of the exhibition.
Structured into four sections, the exhibition takes the viewer on a tour of some of the most evocative scenes of Andalusian Baroque art through the lens of prominent creators from Andalusia’s major artistic centres, establishing an aesthetic and iconographic dialogue with some of the masterpieces of the period.
Dialogues was organised by the Government of Andalusia Ministry for Culture and sponsored and produced by Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG) to celebrate Spain-Russia year 2011.
