COMUNICACIÓN Y PRENSA
This publication describes the programme of Royal building works carried out in the palace city of the Alhambra from the reign of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella until the 18th century. Emperor Charles V’s decision to build a new Royal Palace gave the Alhambra even greater renown as a Royal Site and initiated a process that was to sustain it economically. This work was carried out by craftsmen specialised in building, woodwork, plasterwork, tile work and metalwork who were managed by architects and master builders. These master builders were not only in charge of the construction of the Palace of Charles V but were also responsible for inspecting the state of conservation of the Nasrid palaces and the fortified area and to carry out any necessary restoration work.
