The school of the Alhambra and teh University of Granada present a free online course about the Alhambra that is open to all
The School of the Alhambra and the University of Granada are launching a course entitled “Alhambra – History, Art and Heritage”. This educational project aims to enhance students’ general knowledge of the Alhambra, by analysing its history, its construction processes, its aesthetic values and the reasons for its conservation.
The School of the Alhambra and the University of Granada are launching a course entitled “Alhambra – History, Art and Heritage”. This educational project aims to enhance students’ general knowledge of the Alhambra, by analysing its history, its construction processes, its aesthetic values and the reasons for its conservation. The objective of the course is to provide any person, anywhere in the world with a general understanding of the Alhambra, using a system of simple, dynamic, informative learning, with all the scientific rigour of a university course.
This morning, the Rector of the University of Granada, Francisco González Lodeiro, and the Director of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca Jiménez, presented this project and announced that the course will be offered “through the University of Granada’s open education platform (abiertaUGR), from which we will be offering large-scale, open, free courses as an alternative form of education that offers an enjoyable, participative form of learning that is easily accessible for the general public”. Registration for the course is now open at https://abierta.ugr.es/la_alhambra/. So far almost 4000 people have signed up.
The course, which is coordinated by Rafael López Guzmán, Professor of History of Art at the UGR, will be taught by over thirty experts from the University of Granada and the Council of the Alhambra.
The course is structured into six modules to be held weekly from 6th April to 18th May, using audiovisual resources, complementary teaching materials and direct assistance online.
The management of this course falls within the activities of the School of the Alhambra and of the Campus of International Excellence of the University of Granada (CEI Biotic), and it is organized and coordinated by the UGR Virtual Education Centre. (Centro de Enseñanzas Virtuales de la UGR).
