The Alhambra is taking part in the 27th Fair for Children and Youth Juveandalus 2012, which is being held from 17th till 31st December 2012 in the Santa Juliana Fairground (FERMASA) in Armilla. Since this year’s theme is Games and sports of the world, the stand prepared by the Patronato of the Nasrid monumental complex has been designed around the play of light in the Alhambra.
It has recreated the Doorway of the Seven Floors, with a rear wall that reflects, as though it were a mirror, the hazy images that are reproduced in the space of the stand. So an optical device has been installed, reflecting with retro-illuminating images the different forms and uses of light in the Alhambra: windows, lattice work, lanterns, water, etc.
On both sides of the Doorway of the Seven Floors floodlights have been installed with colour filters imitating the diverse sensations that can be transmitted by light when contemplating the monument at different moments.
On the other hand, some modules have been designed for children to enjoy the optical effects that are produced in some of the inner spaces of the Alhambra, such as the Lindaraja Mirador or the Comares Baths.
Children can take part in didactic workshops based on the play of light. The participants can create different objects such as lattice work, and they will be able to take them home and continue experimenting with them.
They can also discover the importance of orientation and the concept of space in Nasrid architecture; the lattice work as an element that enhances the decoration of the walls; Nasrid architecture and its relationship with the natural environment; the materials of construction and various decorative techniques.
Juveandalus is an event dedicated to Children and Youth, with extensive contents which are at the same time playful, informative, educational, cultural, recreational and sporting.
