The Patronato Provincial de Turismo has handed one of the Granada 2009 Tourism Awards to the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, for its efforts for worldwide dissemination of the good image and reputation of the province, which the Patronato has made since its creation in 1985. The ceremony will take place next July 9 in the Council head office (Diputación).
The provincial institution emphasized the Monumental Complex of the Alhambra as the Province´s principal tourist attraction, as proved by more than three million visitors that it received in 2008. Also, it has been underlined its contribution to Granada´s socio-economic development, with an annual contribution of ca. 200 million €.
The rest of this year´s award winner is the accommodation cave houses Al Jatib, as well as the Escuela de Turismo Alhamar. The awards were created at the end of the nineties to recognize the work realized by persons, companies and institutions, in favor of the tourism in the province. The award winners will receive, as every year, a small sculpture that reproduces a grenade on a pedestal of marble and a golden insignia with the Patronato de Turismo logotype grenade.
