The Patronato de la Alhambra and the Orange Foundation sign collaboration agreement for the implementation of a sign language guide service

This morning, María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, and Manuel Gimeno, General Manager of the Orange Foundation, signed a collaboration agreement for the implementation of a sign language guide service for hearing-impaired persons.
The sign language guides are portable multimedia devices in PDA format equipped with a screen to display videos in which the chosen themes and items will be explained by an interpreter of the Spanish Sign Language (LSE) with subtitles. This service, easy-to-use and with a comfortable navigation, is aimed at securing the autonomy of deaf people in their visit to the Museum. The sign language guide service is free.
The Alhambra sign language guide will accompany the hearing-impaired visitor during his tour through the Alhambra complex. The sign language guide service will be offered all along the itineraries for public visit, for example, at the Palace of Charles V, the Palace of Charles V, the Court of the Lions, the Partal gardens and the Partal gardens.
This initiative is part of the Orange Foundation’s commitment to cover the Spanish cultural heritage and bring it closer to the community of hearing-impaired persons and consequently to their families by making possible a common visit adapted to their different needs. Sign language guides have been so far implemented in the Reina Sofia National Museum and Art Center, the Mérida National Museum of Roman Art, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Altamira National Museum and Research Center and soon in the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC).
