The Minister of Culture opens the exhibition ‘Atrio de la Alhambra International Ideas Competition, Granada’
This afternoon, the Regional Minister of Culture, Paulino Plata was opened the exhibition Atrio de la Alhambra International Ideas Competition, Granada. The exhibition will remain open until Sunday, 13 March, in the Chapel of the Palace of Carlos V, and from April 4 to May 7, in the Official Association of Architects of Granada.
The exhibition of scale models of the Atrio de la Alhambra International Ideas Competition, Granada, shows the winner project New Door, by architects Álvaro Siza and Juan Domingo Santos, and the four remaining nominated projects: Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra; Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos; Antonio Tejedor and Manuel Aires, as well as the project team consisting of Antonio Jiménez Torrecillas and JLCG Arquitectos.
The Regional Minister of Culture praised “the high architectural quality of all the proposals submitted, their originality and their innovation” while the project signed by Siza-Santos, whose budget is estimated at eleven million euros, Plata has evaluated “its scenic integration with its immediate environment, and its perfect compliance with the aims of the Alhambra Management Plan”.
This decision of the jury, chaired by the Council for Culture general secretary for cultural policy, Bartolomé Ruiz, passed and by the 15-member jury, 13 of whom are prominent architects, including Carlos Ferrater, Josep María Montaner, Víctor Pérez Escolano and Gabriel Ruiz Cabrero, among others, brings an end to the second and final phase of the competition.
