Tonight at the 27th Edition of the Macael Awards (Premios Macael) the Court of the Lions of the Alhambra will receive the National Prize for the “restoration work performed to restore the Court to its original condition by paving it with 250 pieces of Macael White Marble”.
The Director of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca, will receive the prize, which is awarded in recognition of the work carried out by a multidisciplinary team made in Andalusia, made up of over 100 professionals who work for 33 different companies. In 2012 over 2,000,000 people visited this emblematic space in the heart of the Alhambra.
With these prizes the Andalusia Marble Federation (AEMA) pays tribute to those individuals and institutions that have supported the Marble industry. In addition to the Alhambra, AEMA also awarded prizes to the journalist, Carlos Herrera, who received the Communicator Award, and the motorcyclist, Jorge Lorenzo, who received the Person Award for his charity work.
In this year’s edition of the awards, the main new feature was the numerous international awards for building works using Macael Marble in the different continents of the world. The award for North America went to the architect Daniel Liebskind; for South America to the Mexican company Luq Stones; for Africa the award was for the Misterios del Rosario monument in Equatorial Guinea and for Europe the award went to the So Ouest 4 Estrellas shopping centre in Paris.
