The Consortium of the Millennium is signed in the Alhambra

The Consortium of the Millennium of the creation of the Kingdom of Granada has been signed, in the Palace of Charles the V of the Alhambra this afternoon. The government minister of Public Administrations, Elena Salgado, has presided the event. Also, at the signing there were present the first vice president and minister of the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía, Gaspar Zarrías, the president of the Diputación de Granada, Antonio Martínez Caler, the mayor of Granada, José Torres Hurtado and the representatives of the Andalusian councils in which the Kingdom of Granada was settled.
Elena Salgado has indicated that the central executive “joins eagerly” to the commemoration that will count with an initial budget of 750.000 Euros. The government minister of Public Administrations has assured that the Government of Spain will do “whatever is necessary” for this event, which will take place in 2013, to be a success.
Moreover, Gaspar Zarrías, has underlined that the Millennium will improve the infrastructures of Granada and tries to constitute itself as “world reference of the intercultural dialogue”. Zarrías has emphasized the institutional consensus, the participation of the private company and the implication of the citizenship in order to make this event reach “a national and international level”.
At the signing were present the ex-rector of the University of Granada, David Aguilar, which will preside the Consortium, the Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca, the ministers of Government and Education of the Junta de Andalucía, Clara Aguilera and Teresa Jiménez, the Government’s representative of Spain in the province of Granada, Antonio Cruz and the Government’s representative of the Junta de Andalucía, Jesús Huertas.
