The Alhambra will be the venue for the opening of the World Fair of Tourism for Culture and National Heritage CULTOUR 2012. This is the fourth edition of this convention, which will be held from 3rd till 5th October in the Exhibition and Congress Hall (Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos) in Granada. CULTOUR is an interactive fair that lasts two days and is aimed at the market of cultural travels and heritage, where organizations and companies that provide travel and tourism throughout the world assemble to organize, programme and contract this type of journeys.
Cultural and heritage journeys bring together any type of trips including long weekends or “city breaks”, archaeology, art heritage cities, historical places, cultural events, local culture, regional festivals, historical routes, religious events, pilgrimages, musical festivals or concerts, dance, theatre or musical shows, museums, visits to wine cellars and distilleries, gastronomy, ethnic festivals, scientific trips, enological routes, sports events, scientific cruises and folkloric events, among others.
According to the World Tourism Organization (WTO), cultural and heritage tourism is the market of greatest growth at world level. It is also, as indicated by the most important associations of meetings, conventions, events, congresses, etc. the business tourism that creates 7 times more proceeds than holiday tourism.
