On 9 June the Alhambra will be celebrating International Archives Day with free guided tours for all those who want to find out more about its document collections. A special attraction of this year’s celebrations will be that visitors will have the chance to see some recently restored 16th and 17th century files; the Alhambra’s catalogued and digitalised plant collection and a small exhibition of various documents in different for-mats about the Oratory of the Partal palace, which is currently undergoing restoration. Visitors will also be able to visit the restoration workshop where they will be shown the process involved in restoring a historic document.
Those interested in taking part in this activity must sign up in advance before 6 June by sending their details to the following e-mail address archivo.pag@juntadeandalucia.es or by calling 958 02 79 43, where they can reserve a place.
Visitors will be accompanied by the technical staff of the Archives of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife and the tour will begin at the ticket office in the Generalife. The route will take the visitors to the document deposit, where the document collection is stored. This collection covers a large chunk of the monument’s history running from the period when it was the Captaincy-General of the Kingdom of Granada until to-day’s Council collection. Visitors will also have the chance to admire the recent in-stallation of collections of maps, photographs, engravings, posters and new acquisi-tions which daily augment the assets of the Alhambra.
