This morning, the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife opened the eastern section of the Cypress Walk to the public after the restoration of its traditional paving of compacted earth and decorative stones. The gutters for draining rainwater and the rest areas have also been improved.
Over the last four months the Alhambra’s Gardens and Woods Department has been working to improve the lighting and the traditional furnishings along this path, which with the installation of benches made with Sierra Elvira marble will improve the quality of the visit on this ancient mediaeval access path to the high part of the Almunia, from which one can still hear the murmur of the waters of the Alhambra’s Royal Water-Channel.
The work has been completed with the restoration of the trees and bushes that line the walk. New cypress trees have also been planted. In the area known as the Tabla de los Bojes (Box-trees), numerous hazel-trees, whitebeams, flowering ashes, maples and strawberry trees have been planted, all of which will help to consolidate the wide diversity of plants and animals in this very special space.
