The Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife, and the Centro Mediterráneo of the University of Granada organise the course The restoration of the Fountain of the Lions in the Alhambra: Criteria, processes and methodologies, which will be hold from the 17th to the 21st of September 2012 in the Assembly Hall at the Palace of Charles V. Those who are interested in taking part in the course should make their reservation through the website of the Mediterranean Centre of Granada University, or by telephone: 958 242 922.
The objective of this course is to deepen on the knowledge of the Court of the Lions and its fountain. The main centre of the Nasrid Palaces Complex shows the refined sensibility of its creators at their greatest splendour and it is the best-known and most symbolic image not only of the Alhambra, but also of the city of Granada.
The passage of time, atmospheric conditions, reformations, and even human action have considerably deteriorated this hydraulic set of sculptures characterized by its fragility. Besides the continuous flow of water has damaged the fountain.
Due to the continuous preservation by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and, specifically, after a period of research, monitoring and analysis that began in 2002, a rigorous process of complete restoration of the figures, basin, and rest of elements that form the hydraulic system located at the Court of the Lions has been going on since 2006.
The Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife and the Centro Mediterráneo of the University of Granada, in the occasion of the 2012 summer courses, attempt to disseminate the different approaches and methodologies used in the reformation of this emblematic symbol of Hispanic Muslim art.
