The Alhambra, honourable mention in Las Huellas del Milenio

The Alhambra was awarded an honourable mention in the Huellas del Milenio competition organised by multimedia platform ideal.es and the Milenio del Reino de Granada (Millennium of the Kingdom of Granada) to find the ten most important traces of the legacy of the area occupied by the Kingdom of Granada. María del Mar Villafranca, general director of Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG), received the distinction during the award ceremony held on Monday 7 March at the Al-Andalus pavilion at Granada Science Park.
The aim of the competition was simple: to discover the place, event or custom considered by the readers of ideal.es to be the primary cultural legacy of the area of influence of the Kingdom of Granada.
When the votes were tallied, it was found that, for the readers of ideal.es, the most important element of the region’s heritage is the Festival of Moors and Christians, particularly in the towns of Benamaurel and Cúllar. Following very closely, second place went to the Montefrío Historical-Monumental site, while third place was taken by the Íllora Historical-Monumental site.
Other awards went to Úbeda and Baeza, Jaén Cathedral, Alhama (Granada), the Albayzín, the Castle of La Mota, the Castle of Píñar, and, in tenth place, Granada Cathedral and Royal Chapel.
