The Alhambra and the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada bring the events and activities devoted to the composer Ángel Barrios to a close with a musical analysis course
This morning the heads of the two institutions organizing the course presented the seminar, which begins on Friday 21st and brings to a close the activities staged to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Ángel Barrios (1882-1964). These activities were organized as part of the programme for the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada, thanks to a cooperation agreement signed with the Council of the Alhambra.
The musical analysis course will be exploring the genre known as canción española in the period around 1914, one of the best known, and in particular the works of Ángel Barrios, Manuel de Falla (1876-1946), Francisco Alonso (1887-1948) and other composers of their generation. Round table debates, workshops and lectures by international specialists will be held from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd November in order to remember the maestro Barrios from a multidisciplinary perspective (music, literature, performance, etc.).
The course teachers will include various university lecturers such as Yvan Nommick, University of Montpellier (France); Juan Miguel González, University of Murcia; María Encina Cortizo, University of Oviedo, Coral Morales (University of Jaén), Carlos Villar (University of Valladolid), Elena Torres (Complutense University of Madrid) and Francisco J. Giménez, academic director of the courses.
The 50th anniversary of the death of Ángel Barrios and the performance of his Six Songs by the soprano Mariola Cantarero in the Festival last summer will be just some of the contents of the course, which also commemorates the centenary of the first performance of Manuel de Falla’s Seven Popular Songs.
