The informal meeting of EU Telecoms and Information Society Ministers take place in the Alhambra from April 18 to 20. The new EU digital strategy is discussed at the meeting, as well as the declaration “For a digital Europe: the Granada strategy” is launched. The meeting is an important appointment of the Spanish Presidency in the field of Information Society. The Telecoms Ministers will also visit the Alhambra during these days.
The Ministerial Declaration of Granada is considered a milestone for the development of the new Digital Strategy, promoted by the European Commission during the half year of Spanish Presidency. It will add to ensure the European technical vanguard in that strategic sector, whose effects should reach all citizens, the companies and civil services.
For the most important challenges for the EU are the economical recovery and the growing competition from other regions of the world, it is necessary to make a profound review of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as a fundamental factor for economical growth, the addition of new jobs, sustainability and social integration.
