Children from the orphanage of San Ildefonso, well-known in Spain for drawing the tickets for the El Gordo Christmas lottery, visited the Alhambra this morning and enjoyed a tour of the monument, which began at the Palace of Charles V before continuing through the Nasrid Palaces, the Alacazaba, Partal and ending up in the Gardens and the Palace of the Generalife.
The children were visiting Granada to take part in the National Lottery draw held as part of the events to commemorate the Millennium of the Foundation of the Kingdom of Granada.
The image appearing on the ticket for this draw shows the Albaicín district of Granada, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The draw will begin at one o’clock in the Paseo del Salón in Granada and the winning ticket will be drawn by the children of San Ildefonso and by pupils from the Colegio Público San José who will be promoting the city on their T-shirts bearing the slogan, ‘Gift yourself Granada’.
