This morning, the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife and the Andalusian Library paid a tribute to Washington Irving, on occasion of the 150 anniversary of his death, with a Reading Marathon from Tales of the Alhambra.
The event has taken place in the Room “Val del Omar” of the Andalusian Library and it has been opened by María del Mar Villafranca, Director of the Patronato de la Alhambra y el Generalife, and Pedro Benzal, Area Director of the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia.
More than 50 personages of art, education, journalism, business and politics – together with hundreds of secondary school students from the school Instituto Alhambra of Granada, which this year is also commemorating the 25 anniversary of its creation – have participated in this event, reading out loud short stories from Tales of the Alhambra, which is Irving’s most emblematic work.
