Tonight the Torre de la Vela will be a glowing shade of pink to commemorate the International Day of the Girl, as declared by the United Nations, which is being held today. The Tower will be lit up from 8 pm onwards as part of the events to mark this day in which the Alhambra together with the Empire State Building in New York and the Niagara Falls in Canada among other emblematic sites around the world will be expressing their support for this cause. In total eight countries from all over the world: Australia, Canada, Germany, China, the United States, Norway, the Netherlands and Spain are taking part in these events.
The various activities scheduled for the day include a benefit concert offered by the singer Estrella Morente in the Palacio de los Córdova, organized by the “Plan International” organization as part of their campaign ” Because I am a Girl”.
The ‘Because I am a Girl’ campaign is the fruit of Plan International’s commitment to girls around the world and seeks public support to guarantee them a quality education until they are at least nine years old. The aim is to ensure that all the girls in the world receive the education, skills and support they require to escape from poverty and have an opportunity in life.
