Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife to analyse work of Owen Jones

Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG) has organised a series of talks to analyse the work of English architect Owen Jones in relation to the Alhambra and orientalism. Jones converted the Nasrid site into the focus of 19th century design reform.
The seminar will be held over 21-22 February 2012, in the Palace of Carlos V, where the exhibition Owen Jones and the Alhambra: Islamic design, discovery and vision is currently running. The talks aim to contribute not only to the study of Jones himself, but also to an understanding of the important role played by the Alhambra in the reflections of many contemporary artists and architects.
Speakers at Owen Jones, the Alhambra and orientalism include María del Mar Villafranca, general director of PAG; Juan Calatrava, professor of History of Art at the University of Granada, who will also chair the sessions; José Antonio González Alcantud, professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Granada; researcher Kathryn Ferry; José Tito Rojo, curator at the University of Granada Botanic Garden; and V&A curators Mariam Rosser-Owen and Abraham Thomas, who have also, along with Juan Calatrava, commissioned the exhibition, which runs until 28 February 2012.
