The Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife (PAG) has renewed its agreement with the Spanish Red Cross for another two years. In 2010, the Spanish Red Cross attended 1114 persons at the Alhambra site, transferring 72 to hospital. The most frequent incidents involved cuts, pains, bruises, sprains, faints and dizziness.
The Spanish Red Cross unit available to PAG consists of a healthcare point equipped for basic aid, operative daily from 9 am – 7 pm all year round, along with an ambulance coordinated with the Provincial Centre, to give support along with other Red Cross units and vehicles in the event of a mass emergency. The team consists of a nurse, a driver and a life guard.
For the Matisse and the Alhambra exhibition, Cruz Roja has made the “caterpillar chair” service available, to give access to persons with disabilities to the Museum of Fine Arts, located on the first floor of the Palace of Carlos V. To date, the caterpillar chair has been used by over 80 people during the exhibition.
The regional chairman of the Spanish Red Cross, Francisco Escribano, and the director of PAG, María del Mar Villafranca, coincide in pointing out that “both institutions seek to improve the safety of visitors to the Alhambra site”, for which motive the agreement has been renewed for a further two years.
Moreover, in the event of a mass emergency or if psycho-social care is needed, the psycho-social emergency response team (ERIE) of psychologists and social workers will come into action.
