Open Day at the Alhambra restoration workshops and guided visits to the “Innovating Tradition” exhibition
The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife is organizing open days at the Wood and Plasterwork Restoration Workshops on 25 April and 23 May and guided visits to the “Innovating Tradition” exhibition being held at the temporary exhibition room in the Casas de la Mimbre in the Alhambra’s new educational area.
Those interested in taking part in any of these activities must book a place by e-mail to alhambraeduca.pag@juntadeandalucia.es or in person at the offices in Corral del Carbón, in Calle Mariana Pineda s/n, Granada.
The guided visits to the Wood and Plasterwork Restoration Workshops will have a maximum of 40 places on each of the two visits, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. and 12 a.m. and lasting approximately 1 hour.
The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife is also organizing free guided visits to the “Innovating Tradition” exhibition on display at the Casas de la Mimbre until 20 April. This exhibition is the grand finale for the international cross-border project Redalh, funded by the European Union with 352,000 euros and carried out in collaboration with the Delegation of Culture from the Tangier-Tetouan region of Morocco. The objective of the project is to recover, preserve and enhance the value of the common craft heritage of the Maghreb and al-Andalus.
The exhibition can also be visited at the Kasbah Museum in Tangier (Morocco) and from 28 March at the School of Arts and Crafts in Tetouan (Morocco). The exhibition includes several displays recreating the workplaces of the different types of craftsmen and there are replicas of pieces made with different craft techniques and in different media, which show that these traditional crafts continue to thrive today.
There are also a number of audiovisual and graphic exhibits presenting the conclusions of the various research and other activities carried out in both regions during this project, which was jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, as part of the second round of Projects in the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme (2007-2013). The exhibition can also be enjoyed with a virtual visit online to www.redalh.eu
When the exhibition is officially closed on 20 April, it will still be possible to visit it as free guided visits will be organized every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 30 June, with a maximum number of 30 people per visit. Those interested must book a place at alhambraeduca.pag@juntadeandalucia.es.
