New premises for the Granada Historical Studies Centre in the Corral del Carbón

The Council of the Alhambra and Generalife has offered the Granada Historical Studies Centre (CEHGR) a space for its new premises in the Corral del Carbón, a historical building in the Calle Mariana Pineda in Granada. From now on the Governing Board of this institution, founded in 1910 by a group of professors from the University of Granada, will be able to meet there and contribute to the research, study and dissemination of the history of Granada and its Kingdom.
The Director of the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife, María del Mar Villafranca, officially handed over “the keys” of the new premises to the President of this institution, Rafael G. Peinado, Professor of Mediaeval History at the University of Granada, who was accompanied by various members of the Governing Board. “The Granada Historical Studies Centre has always had links with the Alhambra ever since it was first established and has devoted numerous research projects to the monument, which have been disseminated to a wider audience in the Journal published by the Centre” Villafranca explained.
For his part, Rafael García Peinado thanked the Council of the Alhambra and Generalife and acknowledged that with these new premises the Granada Historical Studies Centre will be able to hold meetings, talks and seminars and will also be able to continue its project to create a library for the study of the history of Granada and its Kingdom. “We will now have space in which to debate and to organize the publication of the journal in which we present research work about Granada and information about the activities of the Centre”.
The CEHGR was officially inaugurated on 13 March 1910 in a ceremony held at the Paraninfo of the University of Granada chaired by the Rector Federico Gutiérrez. The first President of the Centre was Segismundo Moret and the first issue of the journal was published in 1911.
